Ben Affleck Has A Bad Day with Genealogists

The hypocrisy…it burns!

Could you imagine the outrage on the left if a conservative tried what Affleck did (with PBS helping him do it)?  I can understand Ben Affleck being a bit uncomfortable about his family's past, but that PBS and Gates (and Burns) went along with this charade is what I find intolerable.

Twitchy: Nick Searcy unloads on Affleck  And Searcy is absolutely right about this:

  1. Affleck needs to say "ciao" to those who would eat him.

  2. Being of Dutch ancestry, I wondered on occasion if any of my ancestors were slave owners (not that it would have bothered me).

Nope, mine were all poor farmer types who had baskets of kids to do the work (13, 10, and 11 in the first 3 generations) and, yeah, kids were as expensive as slaves, but they eventually grew up, got married, and left home.

  3. Frankly, I don't know with certainty if my ancestors on the Maxwell side, from Ireland, of the family had slaves at anytime...mostly they settled in New York around the turn of the 17th to 18th century and fought in the Revolutionary War, and subsequently on the Union side in the Civil War. The other side, the Thompson side, definitely did not have slaves as they came at the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries and were relatively ordinary farmers from Ireland via Canada to the USA. No matter what I own my time on earth, not theirs, so I don't worry much about it. I am not responsible for what some ancient grand parent did, or did not do, in 1750 or so. Other than not being "Torries" I pay little attention to their history.
